Spring Snowstorm!

This weekend brought a spring snowstorm complete with 8 inches of new snow. The warmer weather of the past two weeks has been slowly opening the creek and settling the snowpack. Yesterday's storm indicates that old man winter is not quite ready to throw in the towel. It started snowing Saturday morning and is continuing to snow this afternoon.

It is a wet, fluffy snow. Perfect for snowball fights, building snowmen, and constructing that all important igloo. For kids, sledding on any type of snow is perfect!

With this snowfall, it looks like winter activities will continue at least through the middle of March.

We still have openings in March. Book now for April and May wildflowers! The elk herd is almost always back in the meadow by April 15th. Sorry Memorial Day is already booked.

This was the view from the deck on Friday morning. We had a great sunny weekend, but the forecast is for snow the next two days.

Spring snow has arrived at Camas Meadows. The dry powder snow of this winter has been replaced by heavier, wetter snow. This snow is not the puffy powder of winter ski resorts, but it does have its own set of advantages. It is a lot easier to build a snowman!! The skiing and snowshoeing is much easier. You can ski or snowshoe anywhere without worrying about sinking into the powder. But you need to get out earlier to get the best conditions. By afternoon, the snow may warm up enough to begin sticking. Then is the time to move the lounges to the sun.

Our last guests built a great little sledding run for the smaller kids right off the deck.

The weather is also much warmer. The days are in the 40's and 50's while nights still drop below freezing. In the sunshine, it feels much warmer. With daytime temperatures that warm, the days of winter are numbered. Our guess is that there will be adequate snow for skiing and other snow sports through the middle of March.

Book now for that last bit of winter fun. We are open for the last weekend in February, the 24th and 25th. The first weekend in March is booked. We are also open on weekdays if you can take advantage of the stay two nights get one free offer.

Camas Meadows is an outdoor paradise. We provide snowshoes, sleds, and mountain bikes for our guests to explore the meadow. There is a spotting scope for viewing elk in the spring and fall.

But “Camas contentment” can strike within minutes of making oneself comfortable at the cabin. The view from the couch can make the choice between becoming a couch potato and an outdoor adventurer difficult.

We provide everything that you can possibly need at Camas. You do need to bring your own food and clothes.

There are books to read. Most have outdoor themes, but Camas Meadows is a very outdoor place. Yes, there is a copy of Walden.

There are also board games, puzzles and toys for both kids and adults.

There are plenty of CD’s to listen too and if you want to make your own music a piano. If you’re musically challenged there is even a Belarus Lap Harp complete with sheet music that anyone can play.

If you’re into gourmet cooking, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare that special meal. For those tired of cooking in the kitchen, a large gas Weber barbecue offers an alternative to standing over the stove. Of course, there are wine glasses to toast the end of a perfect day.

For many of our guests the LaFuma recliners, the deck, and the view are all they need for the perfect weekend. For them, “Camas contentment” is the real deal.

The choice is yours…..skiing, snowshoeing or the recliner??

The forecast for Saturday night called for fresh snow by morning. Sunday, however, was once again sunny. This is one of the longest stretches of sunshine we've had during the middle of winter. January is usually the snowiest month of the year. The forecast is for snow on Wednesday.

With the sunny weather the x-country skiing has been great. The longer days of February should bring longer days with warmer temperatures. Hopefully, those sunny days of January will still be around this month.

The meadow is quiet as most of the wildlife has retreated down to the winter range. On Sunday, a pile of bird feathers and coyote tracks showed a successful hunt for one of our winter residents.

We are booked the weekend of February 9th and 16th. The weekend of February 24th is open, but the first weekend of March is reserved. Winter break week from February 20th is open.
