Dedicated to Ziggy: The Dog of Camas Meadows

Ziggy Platis passed to his reward on December 29th. He had lived on the meadow and greeted everyone who arrived for the past 10 years. There have been plenty of dogs that have lived at Camas Meadows and were part of the meadow and its history.  However, one dog made the meadow his special place, Ziggy.  He welcomed visitors, guests, and residents with the same wagging tail and friendly face.  The entire meadow was his home and he wandered around spending time with the "south" end residents as well as those of us on the north side.

He was friends to all our dogs.  When he heard our car pull into the driveway, and would come over to welcome us back to the meadow and play with our dogs.  There was not a mean bone in his body, and everybody was his friend.  We are not sure what sort of relationship he had with the coyotes on the meadow, but they left him alone.

Ziggy lived at the house at the end of the road.  He was a pound puppy when he was adopted.  We are not sure of his first two years of life, but as soon as he showed up at the meadow he knew he was at home.  For these reason we do not know his exact age, but suspect he was probably 12 or 13 when he left the meadow behind.

Ziggy was not trained, but he was a gentleman that liked everyone.  No he did not listen to you (at least for the first 7 years), but neither did he bark, threaten, or act obnoxious around you.   We on the meadow, will miss him greatly.

We have had snow and more snow.  There is three of four feet on the meadow now.  None of the grasses are showing.  It is a foot of powder on a three foot base.  Skiing is good if you find tracks to follow or you can make your own personal ski tour route on the meadow.

We are booked the weekends of January 15th and Jan 28th.  All other weekends are open.  Come enjoy the sunshine and snow of Camas Meadows this winter.  Winter is usually around only through the first or second week of March so don't miss it.

Snow Season is Here!

This is what the meadow looked like on December 10th.  Snow on the meadow, but the meadow grasses were still poking through the snow.  The weather forecast promised more snow over the weekend.  It did start snowing on Saturday and just kept on snowing and snowing.

The snowfall covered the meadow in a blanket of white.  It was a fairly heavy, wet snow so it is providing a good base for snowshoeing and x-country skiing.  The snow is PERFECT for snow people and snow balls!  Unfortunately, the meadow population of snow ball and snowman experts is very low.  That is people under the age of ten that know how to make the perfect snowball or snowman.  I guess those of us over the age of ten can try and remember our past expertise.

This is what it looked like on Monday.

It looks like we have three feet of snow on the level.  The snow will consolidate over the next couple of days, but more snow is predicted for this weekend.  Yes, it will be a white Christmas at Camas Meadows once again.

We are booked from December 24th through December 27th and December 31st through January 2nd.  In January we are booked from the 15th through the 17th and the 28th through the 30th.

Other weekends and weekdays in January and February are still open.

Book your winter wonderland trip to Camas Meadows this winter.
